About Fortress Stabilization
Fortress Stabilization Systems is the only company to innovatively redesigned Aerospace and Marine Carbon Fiber and kevlar technologies to meet the specific needs of the Construction Industry and provide the support needed to effectively utilize these products.

Through exhaustive research, development, and laboratory-field testing, we have produced proven and unsurpassed surface preparation and bonding techniques that resolve many lingering issues within the construction industry.

Our product line and their applications are ever-expanding as the construction industry, both commercial and residential, realize the tremendous advantages and utilities of the Fortress Stabilization Systems.

There is only one company that offers the latest technologies to the construction industry with innovative time-tested application procedures. That company is Fortress Stabilization Systems.

A few of our innovative methods are briefly described below:
Surface Preparation Or Peel Ply Prepared Surfaces
Peel ply is polyester or nylon cloth material applied to the completed laminate while the resin is still wet. This cloth will not adhere to wet layup.

The purpose of the peel ply: Knowing the finished laminate will be laminated to another wet bonding agent to create another laminate. The peel ply produces a grooved non-amine bonding surface. Peel ply provides the added benefit of absorbing excess resin from the composite skins.

This technology has been used for many years in the Aero Space, Nautical/Marine and Aircraft industries. Most resins after curing produce an amine blush, which is not a desirable bonding surface. Peel ply allows for a re-bondable surface that requires no additional preparation once the peel ply is removed. The peel ply also produces a grooved surface for secondary bonding. An added benefit is the carbon's bonding area remains clean and ready for lamination regardless of whether the environment is unclean, as is the case in most construction or job sites.
Vacuum Clamping or Vacuum Lamination
Fortress Stabilization is a pioneer in the construction industry, but the techniques are not only common they are essential in the composite industry itself.

ACI (American Concrete Institute) 440 design guidelines state that a composite laid up to concrete or masonry can have a 4% void factor. If you laminate a boat or an airplane with this void factor it would sink or fall apart in the air.

We believe there are many reasons that these techniques were not well represented in the construction industry. Of primary consideration, are the obvious time and labor costs.

The extra time and labor to seal, bag, tape and vacuum the CFR (carbon fiber reinforcement) is a disadvantage in comparison to other systems where resin is applied by simply rolling it on. Non-vacuum lamination can create much more than a 4% void factor in many cases.

The Fortress manual vacuum clamping technique fits this niche. This technique can achieve a 1% void factor and adds maybe 5 minutes to the installation time. This technique is perfect with grids, and works reasonably well with plates and wet lay ups.

Plates that require long runs such as 60 lineal ft may require anchors to reduce voids and assure proper installation. Fortress manufactures T and L anchors to meet these requirements.

Advantages of Vacuum Lamination /Vacuum Clamping
  • Improved laminate and resin thickness uniformity
  • Reduced memory stress and warp of carbon at time of cure
  • Reduced air, moisture and volatile entrapment
  • Higher quality bonds when multi-layers of carbon are used
  • Potential reduction is the amount of resin used
  • All combined produces superior bonding capabilities
